What's ARCHAM

She's big, bad, powered by artificial intelligence, and is still growing stronger every day. Meet ARCHAM: our powerful proprietary reporting service developed to help us keep an eye on the thousands of posts submitted each day. Mostly operating behind the scenes, the system allows users to submit reports of posts they think violate our content standards.

Motivation

When operating at such a large scale, keeping track of the vast amounts of content being submitted will always be a difficult problem to solve. That's why at HotTub we developed ARCHAM (Automatic Report Creation, Handling, And Moderation). Built as a powerful independent service, ARCHAM is able to process millions of posts a day and create comprehensive, self-updating reports that help us ensure the content posted to HotTub adheres to our rules.

The benefits of having a custom reporting system are immense:
• Automatically monitors posts for violating content
• Allows us to effectively manage user-submitted reports
• Uses machine learning to determine the validity of reports
• Takes action against violating posts and users, requiring no human interaction

The Report Lifecycle

While ARCHAM is extremely powerful, nothing is more powerful than a cooperative community. All reporting begins with you. Yes, you. If you see a post that violates our rules, report it through the ellipsis at the top-right of the post screen and ARCHAM will do the rest. This ensures the post will get reviewed by ARCHAM.

Once within ARCHAM, our powerful algorithms powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence will determine the toxicity, hostility, and other metrics about the content of the post. These values will provide an objective basis for determining the next appropriate steps for ARCHAM to take. If a post is reported enough in a tight-enough timeframe, the report's priority will be elevated and our IRL moderators will see it sooner.

In the meantime if the post surpasses our internal thresholds, the post may be temporarily removed until fully reviewed. After ARCHAM's processes are complete, we'll send a confirmation email to all reporters about the status of their report, as well as take proper repercussions towards the violating user. This may result in a suspension or ban for the violator.

The Future of ARCHAM

Already, ARCHAM has proved its worth. We've been able to scale the system up effortlessly, allowing us to maintain a watchful eye over HotTub. As we continue to make HotTub better, we plan on expanding the ARCHAM system to automate more and more of our moderation needs.

Your Privacy

If any of this concerns you, don't worry! As long as you're not breaking any of our rules, you're okay! ARCHAM is only looking for the baddies and determining if a report is legit or not, then taking action if it is. Throughout the process, all personal data is encrypted and unreadable by the system (except the contact email provided by a reporter). Although if a post is found to violate our content standards, ARCHAM will have to take the necesary steps which may require us to retrieve the violator's information.
